Elissavet Hitsiou

Elissavet (Elli) Hitsiou studied History and Archaeology; she was born in Thessaloniki, Νorthern Greece, where she currently lives and works as editor, consultant and independent researcher.

Education: Social and economic (Prehistoric) Archaeology (BA, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, GR); Production Technology and Long-distance Exchange/Circulation of Late Neolithic Pottery from N. Greece; expertise: ancient materials science; petrographic analysis of pottery (PhD, the University of Sheffield, UK).

Prestigious Awards & Positions: Production Technology, Provenance and Trade of ‘Mendean’ type of Late Classical Amphorae from the Peristera Shipwreck, in Alonnesos, and the Krania and Komboloi settlements, in Macedonia, N. Greece (the Malcolm H. Wiener Visiting Research Professorship and the Geoarchaeology Fellowship of the Wiener Laboratory, the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, GR); Assistant Professor in Greek Archaeology (Amsterdam Archaeological Center, The University of Amsterdam, NL).

Research Interests: Greek Archaeology; social and economic theory in Anthropological Archaeology; the biographies and mobilities of objects, ideas and people; gender and social class in ancient and modern Greece
